Spicy Tempered Dhal
Cooking Instructions
What You Will Need
- Gedera & Co. Spicy Tempered Dhal kit
- 1/4 Onion
- 2 & 1/2 cups of water
- 1/2 cup boiling water
For Tempering
- 1 clove garlic
- 1/4 Onion
- 2 tbs canola (or any light oil)
Cooking Instructions
- Empty the lentils pouch on to a heavy based pan and rinse in cold water until water runs clear.
- Empty Aromatics, Spice Blend pouch and chopped onion in to same pan with the lentils. Add 2 & 1/2 cups water and bring it to a boil .
- Reduce heat to medium and let it simmer for 8-9 minutes until lentils are tender and is translucent.
Tempering
- Transfer the cooked lentils to a heatproof bowl.
- Place the saucepan back on the stove and add 2 tbs of oil.
- Once the oil is hot, add the thinly sliced garlic and Onion, then empty the contents of the spice it up pouch. Coook for 2-3 minutes until the mixture is golden brown.
Pour the cooked lentils back in to the saucepan and mix well. You can also pour the tempered mixture on top of the lentils.
Serve with warm rice , roti or crusty bread.
Note: Pandan leaves are edible but they are tough and fibrous. They add an amazing aroma but are not pleasant to eat. Please remove them before enjoying the dish.
